私は幼い頃、両親が海外出張に行く際に祖母の家に2週間ほど預けられたことがあります。別れる際に急に悲しくなり泣いてしまったのですが、その時に母が使っていたハンカチーフで涙を拭き、そのまま持たせてくれました。ハンカチーフからは母の化粧品や香水、家の洗剤や柔軟剤などの様々な香りがして、私はそのハンカチーフを握りしめたまま電車に乗ったり、一緒に寝たりしました。

When I was a child, I was once left at my grandmother's house for two weeks when my parents went on an overseas business trip. When we parted, I suddenly became sad and cried. My mother wiped my tears with a handkerchief she was using at the time and let me keep it. The handkerchief smelled of my mother's cosmetics shop, perfume, house detergent, fabric softener, and many other scents.I rode the train with the handkerchief clutched in my hand, and slept with it.
